‘Lion of Punjab’, or ‘Punjab Kesari’ LALA LAJPAT RAI was an outstanding leader, statesman, historian and a distinguished orator. Revered for being one of India’s most inspirational member in India’s struggle for independence and a prominent member of the ‘Lal Bal Pal’ triumvirate which included Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal, his birth anniversary is celebrated every 28th January as LALA LAJPAT RAI JAYANTI. A noted author of books including, ‘England’s Debt to India’, ‘History of the Arya Samaj’, ‘The Story of my Deportation’ and ‘Swaraj and Social Change’, Lala Lajpat Rai died a martyr while leading a demonstration against the Simon Commission in Lahore. His endeavours and struggles in the freedom movement not only helped us earn independence but left an indelible mark in the pages of history by being an embodiment of patriotism.
