“The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all.”
In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as “National Voters’ Day”. It has been started from 25 January 2011 to mark Commission’s foundation day, under the Manmohan Singh government. On this day, the government holds campaigns to encourage voters (particularly young voters) to participate in the political process. National Awards are given for excellence and innovation in election processes. These awards recognise the contribution of the election machinery, government departments, media and PSUs. National Voters Day encourages voters to use their voices at the polls and make their votes count as it is one of the only ways we, the people, can have power. GD Goenka Public School, Rohini, Sector 9, spreads awareness about the same on this day.
