Yoga is a collection of spiritual, physical and mental practices. It received the global stature due to its principles in treatment which are without any side effects. Yoga has earned special recognition from the United Nations and declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day. Yoga is a Sanskrit word which means ‘union’, i.e., of the mind, spirit and body. Yoga concentrates on structured movement (Asanas) and breathing exercises (Pranayama), which are its integral parts. The practice of yoga started thousands of years ago, and it is rooted in Indian culture and heritage. Yoga is performed to strengthen the body and mind. It aids in cleansing the soul and providing a fresh perspective on life. The yog kriya consists of meditation to relax the mind and various asanas to make the body flexible. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness of the many benefits of practising yoga.
Practicing yoga can be very rewarding and has the potential of turning your life upside down, both physically as well as spiritually. On this note, Gd Goenka Public school, Sector-9 Rohini celebrates International Yoga Day and urges all to make this day a success and further popularize it.
